BASIC ELIGIBILITY
 
  • Must physically be in the state of California and in the local Long Beach area during the Spring 2025 term. 
  • Must be an international degree student or exchange student enrolled full-time at CSULB.
  • Major: All majors are encouraged to apply!
  • Level: Current 2nd semester freshmen, Sophomores or above, graduate, postbac, or exchange student enrolled in the Spring 2025 term.
  • Not on academic probation and in good standing. Minimum grade point average (GPA): Undergrad = 2.5 or above, Grad = 3.0 or above.
  • Have a genuine interest in sharing your culture with Long Beach youth.
  • Attend orientation, training and school visits (no exceptions). 
  • Please note: Some training will be done virtually on video conferencing.
  • School visits may be virtual or in-person

(Students who will be on OPT in Spring are not eligible as you must be enrolled as a student for this position)

DESIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Any previous experience with intercultural programs or activities.
  • Ability to gather information about one's country or culture.
  • Ability to view international events and issues from a global perspective.
  • Ability to interact positively and communicate effectively to children/youth.

REQUIRED INVOLVEMENT
Time commitment: up to 30 hours total until end of Spring 2025
  • November 25-29, 2024: Interview and Orientation
  • December 7, 2024 (9am - 11am): Welcome and Training workshop on public speaking, intercultural communication and leadership development.
  • January 25, 2025 (9am - 11am): Teacher meeting
  • February - April  2025 (15 hours): Classroom presentation and preparation
  • End of April 2025 (2 hours): Certificate ceremony
